This training area is offered through Indian Hills Community College off campus and may require additional prerequisite criteria than what is listed below. - Transport goods from one location to another
- Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions
- Follow signals from loading crews
- Verify instructions and routes
- Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety and emergency equipment is in good working order

Most Commercial Driving graduates work full time for a trucking company. Truckers drive heavy trucks for delivery and help load and unload trucks. Long-haul truck drivers may be away from home for days or weeks at a time.
Students should also consider pursuing Advanced Heavy Truck Driving and other Advanced Training programs at Job Corps as part of their career pathway.

In the Commercial Driving training program, you can earn nationally recognized credentials and/or state licensures that show you have the skills and knowledge to work in transportation, logistics and customer service.
Students should also earn a state-issued learner’s permit and driver’s license upon completion of
the program.
What you’ll need to start training ...
- Have a high school diploma or equivalent (can be earned at all Job Corps centers)
- Completion of all introductory and career preparation courses
- Passing scores on all written and performance tests
- Meet academic (math and reading) requirements
- Have a valid, state-issued driver’s license (can be earned at all Job Corps centers)
- Meet age requirements (varies by state)
- Have a physical examination every two years
- Read and speak English
